Sarah Palin’s America — Um, I Mean, Alaska

I don’t know what channels I’m watching lately, but I can’t seem to escape the ads for the new TLC series Sarah Palin’s Alaska which starts later this month.

Now I know that Sarah Palin is not intended for people like me, and I know that she is not pitching her show to me and my fellow latte sippers. And yet I cannot help but find her pitch as grating as mama grizzly claws on a chalkboard.

When watching the ads, I can’t help but complete Palin’s unspoken subtext in my head.

“Family comes first here.”
Unlike here in New York, where we raise our children for fuel.

“I’d rather be out here being free. ”
Cuz if you’re not gutting fish on a glacier, you hate freedom.

“I’d rather be doing this than in some stuffy old political office.”
At last, Sarah Palin and I agree on something. I would rather you our were on a glacier gutting fish, too! You’re right, Sarah — politics is stinky and stuffy. Never forget that. The next time someone tries to take away your freedom and put you in some stuffy old political office, you just say, “no siree, mister.”

Unflattering Politician Photo of the Week

“Where’s She Going? I Dunno, Alaska” Edition

Sarah Palin

“See ya … wouldn’t wanna be ya!”

Alaska Governor Sarah Palin is now just Sarah Plain and Tall, after leaving office this week for … well, no one’s really sure.

In her farewell speech, Palin said:

It is because I love Alaska this much that I feel it is my duty to avoid the unproductive, typical, politics as usual, lame duck session in one’s last year in office. How does that benefit you? No, with this decision now, I will be able to fight even harder for you, for what is right, for truth. And I have never felt like you need a title to do that.

So, it’s her duty to avoid her last year in office. She’s doing this to benefit us. And for once, I think she’s right.

Now, for someone who says she wants The Media to leave her alone, it would be kinda great if she just went away.

William Shatner attempts to make some sense of Sarah Palin’s farewell poem, … I mean speech.

Like Shooting Turkeys in a Barrel

I know it’s sorta beyond schadenfreude at this point, but this is just too good.

With over two million views on YouTube so far, the odds are good that you’ve seen this already. But just in case you haven’t, it’s worth a look.

I don’t know what’s funnier: the fact that former veep candidate Sarah Palin was filmed doing an interview in front of a turkey slaughter right after pardoning a Thanksgiving turkey, or some of the actual answers she gave during the interview.

Here’s a sampler, in answer to a question about what her future plans are:

“Reining in the growth of government, plans that have to do with helping to govern this state and building this team that is continually being built to provide good services to Alaskans.”

Wow, she can’t become a footnote to history fast enough.
